Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of fishing trips do you offer and for how many people?

I currently offer guided musky fishing trips, with select multi-species options available. Additional details can be provided at the time of booking.
Trips are offered on an hourly basis for individuals or groups of up to two people. Groups of up to four people can be accommodated for an additional $50 per person.

What equipment do you provide?

When you fish with Western Wisconsin Musky Guide Service, you’ll be on my 19-foot Ranger 482 VS—an ideal boat designed for comfort, stability, and serious musky fishing performance.
The boat is fully equipped with top-quality rods, reels, bait, and tackle, so you’ll have everything you need for a successful day on the water. I also provide life jackets and all essential safety equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on board.

What should I bring?

Please bring non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses (if available), and weather-appropriate clothing, like rain gear. Dress in layers.
To ensure the best experience on the water, please do not bring your own fishing equipment. I provide all rods, reels, bait, and tackle needed for your trip.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes, please obtain a fishing license prior to your trip at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/Fishing/outreach/FishingLicenses.

How far in advance should I book?

Trips fill up fast, so booking several months in advance is recommended, especially for prime season.

What if it rains?

Trips run rain or shine but be aware, if there's active lightening and storms that prevent fishing, we can either reschedule or issue a refund.

Are fish guaranteed?

Muskies are often called the “fish of 10,000 casts,” and while no guide can ever fully guarantee a catch, I will do everything I can to put the odds in your favor.

Success on the water comes down to focus, effort, and attention to detail. Listening to instructions and applying the techniques I teach will significantly increase your chances of landing one of these incredible fish.

Can we keep the fish?

Western Wisconsin Musky Guide Service practices catch and release for all muskies. Each fish will be handled with care, photographed quickly, and released promptly to ensure its health and preservation.

For other species, harvest options can be discussed during the trip. If a non-musky fish is kept, it is the angler’s responsibility to properly care for and transport their catch in accordance with local regulations.
